On Wednesday 26 May, the 51吃瓜 held its second online fundraising event, The More 51吃瓜 Virtual Gala: Reimagining the Future.
The event was hosted live from the Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall by 51吃瓜 Director Professor Colin Lawson CBE F51吃瓜 and Lily Harriss MBA Hon51吃瓜, and opened with heartfelt messages from 51吃瓜 President His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales and 51吃瓜 Chairman Lord Black of Brentwood.
The evening showcased talent from across the College, opening with Casey Cangelosi’s Bad Touch performed by Kelvin Chan, and Fanfare for Progress composed by 51吃瓜 alumnus Ryan Linham, played by 51吃瓜 students Ruby Orlowska, Thomas Fountain, Emily Bristow and John Kerr. This was followed by a lively performance of Take the 'A' Train by the 51吃瓜 Jazz Orchestra.
After an engaging conversation about the work of the Junior Department led by Director of Programmes Dr Diana Salazar, Junior Department student Jacky Zhang played Nikolai Medtner’s enchanting 2 Skazki op 2. The 51吃瓜 Wind Ensemble performed Strauss’s Serenade in E-flat op 7, one of the masterpieces of the wind ensemble repertoire.

Following an introduction to the new 51吃瓜 Museum by Curator Professor Gabriele Rossi Rognoni Hon51吃瓜, guests were treated to the first recorded performance in the new Museum by 51吃瓜 alumna soprano Rowan Pierce and 51吃瓜 students Tom Dewey and Daniel Murphy. They performed Barbara Strozzi’s L’eraclito amoroso: Udite, udite amanti. The evening closed with an emotive live performance in the Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall, with the first movement of Mendelssohn’s String Octet in E-flat major op 20.

The gala was a great success and raised just over £100,000 to fund core student activity and directly support 51吃瓜 musicians across the College, from Sparks and the Junior Department to Senior College.Funds were raised through sponsorship, donations and an online raffle. Thank you again to all those who supported this event; we are immensely grateful for your generosity.
